As World Teachers’ Day approaches on Friday 30 October 2020 it is time to thank all South Australian teachers for a truly challenging year!
Commemorating World Teachers’ Day gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful work of all teachers who have shown their professionalism and resilience in doing their best for the students of South Australia.
The TRB will celebrate World Teachers Day 2020 by sending 14 adventurous teachers on an Adelaide Oval RoofClimb experience at 6.30pm on Friday 30 October. Past winners have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a uniquely Adelaide experience while also getting the chance to meet other teachers from schools all over South Australia.
If you would like to be part of this exciting experience please email us your greatest remote teaching challenge and how you overcame it, or your funniest remote teaching story, to communications@trb.sa.edu.au. The competition closes at 5 pm on Friday 16 October.

Moving from provisional to full registration - early childhood teachers
This session, for early childhood teachers and directors, is aimed at providing an overview of how to navigate the transition from provisional to full teacher registration.
The Teachers Registration Board will join Gowrie SA to provide an overview of the transition process. Find out how to share evidence and documentation with your evaluator to demonstrate meeting the Proficient level in each of the 7 Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
This session can be paired with mentoring as required. Directors attending can explore their role in supporting the ECT through this process to ensure they have a fully registered teacher in their service.
Facilitator: Cathy Cameron
On Thursday, 24 September at 9.00am - 4.30pm $130.00.
We want to know what you think about teaching
For Australian students to have the best education possible we need to understand the experience of the teachers who educate them – you!
The Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) project is a valuable initiative that is building a comprehensive picture of the national teaching workforce, across all sectors, from initial teacher education through to the end of a teaching career.
You can help simply by completing the short ATWD teacher survey that will contribute to a better understanding of the needs of Australian teachers and inform the future of the teaching profession.
The survey will be available in your portal account from Thursday 1 October.
Your privacy is important
All data in the ATWD is anonymous.
The ATWD complies with all Commonwealth, State and Territory privacy legislation. No personal information is included in the ATWD and individual teachers cannot be identified.
Online Literacy Guarantee Conference
Research into effective intervention for students with dyslexia has shed important light on how reading and spelling should be taught to all students in all schools. The pioneering work of Dr Samuel Orton and his colleague Anna Gillingham in the 1930s and 40s, gave us the essential ingredients for effectively teaching students with dyslexia: structured, synthetic phonics, a cumulative, fine-grained progression through the main ingredients of English orthography and ample opportunity for revision to the point of mastery.
In the decades since, a convergence of research findings has shown how Orton and Gillingham were spot on. Without the benefit of technology to watch the brain as it reads, Orton and Gillingham’s methods showed incredible insight into disorders of reading and how to best remediate them. Finally, in Australian schools there is a growing push to base literacy instruction on this research and cast aside teaching methods based on damaging and disproven ideologies.
In this session, Bill Hansberry shows what evidence-based Wave 3, intensive intervention looks like, the why and how of its various elements and how these same methods are adapted to enrich classroom teaching at Wave 1 with stunning results.
8.30 am-12.30 pm Tuesday 29 September. Register here.
Presenter: Bill Hansberry
Working in private practice at Fullarton House, Bill mentors young people who live with a wide range of challenges including learning differences/disabilities, emotional or behavioural difficulties and young people who are just doing it tough. Alongside this work, Bill mentors teachers, school leaders and parents, assisting them to meet the needs of these students.
SA Science Teachers Association - Early Career Teachers Conference
Building Capacity, Sharing Experiences
This is a conference for teachers in their first five years of teaching or those who are new to teaching Science/STEM. The program includes specialised workshops for both Primary & Secondary teachers.
Attendees will be able to select to participate in five different hands-on workshops across the day delivered by inspiring and expert teachers. They will receive exclusive access to a suite of resources. There will also be the opportunity to network with colleagues over morning tea and lunch (supplied) and chat with the presenters at the concluding happy hour.
You don’t have to be an early career teacher; all teachers will find new ideas and approaches to engage and motivate them in the varied conference program.
Monday 28 September at Immanuel College.
