From the Registrar
Welcome to the mid-year edition of Registration Buzz.
There has been much talk about changes in the early childhood space recently, in particular, the most recent announcement from the Malinauskas government about the implementation of recommendations handed down by the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.
In order to increase the workforce of early childhood teachers able to staff universal 3-year-old education (from 2026), the government has recently approved an amendment to the South Australia Teachers Registration and Standards Regulation 2021. The amendment regulations support minimum qualification requirements for early childhood teachers holding an Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved qualification. The amendment will permit early childhood teachers who have completed a 3-year, Birth – 5 early childhood qualification to immediately register as a teacher with a condition on their registration. These new arrangements do not extend eligibility for teacher registration to holders of Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates approved by ACECQA. You can read more about these changes in the related Buzz article.
Soon we will be contacting you via email about the upcoming ATWD survey. Each year, through the Australian Teacher Workforce Survey, thousands of teachers around Australia share the rewards and challenges of teaching to help us better understand how to build a more sustainable teaching profession. Your participation in the survey is valued, and the numbers are increasing every year.
As I mentioned in the April Buzz, if your Working With Children Check expires in the next six months, it’s time to apply again. Please read the section on applying later in this edition.
I also mentioned that there had been a change in the process of providing evidence of Mandatory Notification Training to the TRB. From the 21st of March 2024, changes to the Regulations mean that the requirement for the TRB to collect proof showing the completion of a mandatory notification course (e.g. RRHAN-EC) for teachers registering or renewing has been removed.
June also marks 1 year since the launch of the new Teachers Registration Board website after many months of migrating content from the old website to a more modern, user-friendly Platform. It is hoped that the new website continues to provide an easy-to-use platform to access information, the Teachers Portal, important updates and much more.
As we move towards July and August, these are busy months at the Board as we tackle the end of one financial year and the beginning of a new one, as well as Renewal of Registration which will open from October 10 on your Teachers Portal.
We look forward to working with you all throughout the second half of 2024.
