The Teachers Registration Board undertakes an annual audit of the professional learning records of approximately 3% of all teachers renewing their registration. In 2022, 303 records were selected randomly for inclusion in the audit. Teachers were given four weeks to ensure their records were complete before the audit commenced. The majority of records were submitted through the Teachers Portal with a small proportion provided as hardcopies.

Teachers recorded a diverse array of professional learning opportunities obtained from a variety of sources including:

• individual readings
• formal study towards a high degree
• podcasts, clips, webinars, and other electronically available resources
• site-based projects

The Teachers Registration Board recognizes the importance of all these different types of professional learning experiences and does not expect teachers attend face-to-face workshops to meet the requirement. This point is crucial to ensure that those teachers who are working part-time or as Temporary Relief Teachers are not disadvantaged.

There were still some examples of professional learning submitted that are not recognized by the Teachers Registration Board because they are considered part of the professional practice of teachers. These examples include:

• open days or career evening for students
• parent teacher interviews
